CHENNAI: Chennai air customs have seized six postal parcels having 7,990 tablets containing psychotropic substances and two parcels containing 1,225 gram of ganja at the foreign post office.
Four registered parcels booked from Chennai to the US by a Delhi-based person which were declared as documents, were found to contain 4,790 tramadol hydrochloride tablets (100mg).

Two other parcels booked from Chennai to the US by a Delhi-based person contained 3,200 tablets of tramadol (100 mg).
Tramadol hydrochloride tablet falls under the category of psychotropic substances as mentioned in the schedule to Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, export of which are prohibited without any export authorisation issued by a competent authority.
In another case, 1,225 gram of ganja was recovered and seized under Customs Act, 1962 from two postal parcels booked from the US and Canada. The ganja was concealed inside yoga massage balls and a vegetable salad mixer.
Further investigation was in progress, according to a customs release on Monday.
